Last Season Information by Euroleague:
Maccabi FOX Tel Aviv came into the 2016-17 campaign with a star-studded roster and great hopes, but a preseason injury to Quincy Miller proved to be a sign of things to come. The team would go through five head coaches and deal with more injuries and off-court issues in slumping to its worst EuroLeague finish of the century. The EuroLeague season began with a road loss at EA7 Emporio Armani Milan and a home defeat against Real Madrid, after which Coach Erez Edelshtein was dismissed. His assistant, Rami Hadar, took control and promptly led the team to back-to-back wins. A three-game winning streak in November, which included victories over the two teams that would reach the EuroLeague championship game, Fenerbahce Istanbul and Olympiacos Piraeus, gave Maccabi a 5-4 record and a share of fourth place. But that momentum would be short-lived as Maccabi dropped nine of its next 10 games and fell into the league cellar. In that time, Hadar stepped down, his assistant Lior Lubin took his place briefly and eventually Ainars Bagatskis was hired. Even as Maccabi spiraled downward and out of the playoff picture, the team spirit shined through with victories over playoff-bound teams Darussafaka Dogus Istanbul, Baskonia Vitoria Gasteiz and Fenerbahce, the last of which came in Istanbul on a Sylven Landesberg buzzer-beater. Maccabi ended the EuroLeague season in 14th place with a 10-20 record. Arik Shivek was handed the reins as head coach for the Israeli playoffs.
